Kudos Report: August 4-5, 2012

Welcome to August, where the oppressive heat still reigns, undergrads return to fill the streets, and the big push is on for Nationals! A handful of CMCers welcomed the new month in fine form:

In the Warrensburg Sprint Tri, Bruce Vaughn finished 5th overall with a PR, and Ben Wilson came in just behind, taking 7th overall and earning himself a new PR as well! Impressive, gentlemen!

The Ohio Senior Olympics continued this week with the triathlon, which saw Terry Hart break the tape for the overall win! Todd Hart, in his first tri finish of the year, also qualified for Nationals with a 6th place finish! Phenomenal!

JP Palmer was out in Boston for a conference, and always travels with her gear for just this kind of opportunity: the YuKanRun Triple Threat – 1mi, 5k, and half marathon. Yes, in one day. Yes, all in the morning. Yes, you’re liable to be institutionalized after completion. Way to go, JP!! (the 1mi and 5k are really just a warm-up anyway, right?!?)

Staying local, the Great Sandbagger 10k is all about predicting your finish time, and the runner finishing farthest ahead of his/her prediction takes home the infamous traveling trophy, aptly named “the big ugly.” CMCers steered clear of such humiliation and posted impressive finish times: Eric Stone 1st overall, Andy Emerson 1st, Hugh Emerson 2nd, Steve Keithahn 4th overall, Steve Kullman 3rd, Bryan Norton 1st, Tony Rigdon 3rd overall, and Lisa Wells 4th overall female. Congrats, guys!

Always looking for another race and more miles, Tony and Andy went from there to the Focus on Health 5k, where they went 1-2: Tony Rigdon 1st overall in 17:59, and Andy Emerson 2nd overall in 18:34. Wow! Way to get it done!

To put it all in perspective, Andy Emerson is coming off a monster race the prior weekend – in the Burning River 100mi USATF National Championships in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, he powered his way to a 2nd place age group finish! You’re amazing, Andy!

Thanks to Todd Hart for sharing some good advice and the photo of the week, taken after the Ohio Senior Olympics cycling events:

Rule 1: Never road race.

Rule 2: Always follow Rule 1.

Yowza. And a hasty end to a perfectly good pair of bike shorts. 😉
