Kudos Report: September 2012

Wowza. September was a crazy month, and things don’t look to be slowing down for CMC in October…grab a seat and a snack and catch up on club happenings (and winnings!)…

Getting it all started and leading the way, Jackie Pearce continues to climb up the PRO IM ranks! Tackling some killer hills, she finished 7th overall!! Way to go, Jackie!

As a pre-nationals warm-up, the Hart brothers made quick work of the Akron General Multisport Festival in Akron, Ohio. Todd Hart finished 2nd in his age group in the sprint tri, and Terry Hart won his age group in the olympic! Fit and fast and ready for OKC!

And on to Redman/Club Nationals…CMC brought the biggest, loudest, most supportive, and certainly most fun group to battle it out on the national stage. Tri OKC put up a good fight with the hometown advantage and ended up on top by the numbers. But scoring per participant – and per class act – CMC dominated the weekend. HUGE KUDOS to everyone who raced, cheered, trained with, and sent good vibes from home – CMC IS AWESOME!!

Saturday was filled with the half, half aquabike, full, and full aquabike. A calm, cool morning gave way to a hot, windy afternoon.

A full day without the full craziness, a strong group attacked the 70.3 distance [with the top 10 earning extra club championship points, and typically the top 15 qualifying for Long Course Worlds 2013 in France]: Larry Archer (rocking the lean, green, CMC one-piece tri suit), Kenny Bader (getting it done with a smile on his face and a cheer for everybody), Denise Bartels, Jenny Clark 2nd, Jeremy Gilion, Gavin Hart 4th, Terry Hart 3rd (even with a 4min penalty!), Todd Hart 9th, Becky Hennessy 4th (with a HUGE PR!), Judi Kaufman (her first 70.3!), Bob Martin (his first 70.3 too, and toughing it out through some serious cramps that surely would’ve killed a lesser man!), JP Palmer 5th, Karen Reider, Mark Reynolds 2nd, Emily Ridgeway 1st (national champ! this girl’s going to france!!), Tony Rigdon 4th, Karen Roberts 6th, Teresa Telford 12th, James Trammell 6th, Mark Vellek, Shawna Victor (70.3 newbie no more!), Lisa Wells 10th, Rachel Wittenberger 9th (also her first I believe), Kevin Wollard 2nd, and Brenda Young (her first 70.3!). Wow! Great work!

The half aquabike is a great option for those who want to destroy the bike without having to worry about saving some for the run. All atop the podium: Craig Lycke 1st, Cheryl Rathert 2nd overall female (with a RAGING fast bike split!), Lisa Rosen 2nd, and Cynthia Woodcock 3rd. Sweet!

Full distance without the full marathon fun: the 114.4 aquabike. Caroline Cue nailed the swim, Amanda Gerke 4th (crushed the swim and followed it up with a new PR distance on the bike!), Carrie Kimber 1st (and 4th overall female!), Mackenzie Rickman 3rd (looking ready for IM FL!), and Nancy Yaeger 4th (also on her way to tear it up at IM FL!). Way to go, girls!

Going long…and longer…and earning their IM stripes: Eric Johnson 2nd, Jessica Johnson 1st, Keri Jones 3rd masters in her first 140.6, Anatolie Juncu toughed out his first iron-distance, and Theresa Young 6th smiled her way through her first 140.6!

Sunday brought a cooler morning for the sprint and olympic races, followed by the awards ceremonies and CMC leading the way with site cleanup.

And the sprint – don’t be fooled; there’s nothing easy about sprinting some 17 miles and change…CMC topped the podium all over the place including WOMEN’S CHAMP CHRISSIE McKINNEY!! Also rocking the sprint race: Misty Brawner 9th, Meredith Burstin, Ron Chapman 4th, Corlin Clark (a sneeze won her an ER visit – glad you bounced back quickly!), Jon Clark 4th, Carson Cornelius (he went to battle with something on the lake bottom and earned a couple of stitches), Don Corwin 8th, Sherry Corwin 4th, Heidi Crouch, Nathan Crouch, Brad Earnest 1st, Annie Fennewald 9th, Amanda Gerke 4th (after a solid full AB on Sat!), Joe Greaves 7th, Stephanie Greenlaw 10th, Todd Hart 1st (after tearing up the Sat half), Becky Hennessy 6th (she pulled a big two-fer, too), Tim Hennessy 8th, Dusty Hoffman, Warren Hoover 9th, Janet Johnson 3rd, Jessica Johnson DAL (in spite of a drafting penalty behind Karen Knowles!), Chris Jones 7th, Karen Knowles 3rd (way to go out with a bang!), Jeff Magsamen, Alyssa Marlo 6th, Bob Martin 6th (a big double weekend!), Marilyn McCreary 1st, Steve Miller 3rd, Megan Morton, Matt Murphy 9th, Dan Noce 5th, Ashton Oltmanns 4th, JP Palmer 2nd (after a strong Sat half!), Colleen Parsons 2nd, Rob Presnell 1st, Mackenzie Rickman 3rd (after her full AB), Tony Rigdon 2nd overall (and coming off his first half in years!), Lisa Rosen 4th (a double weekend for her too!), Karen Rouse, Larry Sabulsky 9th, Jake Simpson, Doug Steinhoff 2nd, John Stone crushed the first bike loop, Lynn Summers, Brian Tate 3rd, Teresa Tice 5th (in her second tri!), Angie Turner 1st (and 4th overall female!), Nancy Yaeger 5th (joining the two-fer club in her preparation for IM FL), and Sunny Younger 8th. Fantastic job!

The last to race get the most cheers. Olympic finishers, including some big two-race finishes: Tim Albers 1st, Greg Campbell 2nd, Jenny Clark 1st (a big double weekend for her!), Jan Davis 7th, Jerry Donohue 1st, Kimberly Earnest 3rd overall female (!), Chris Fennewald 3rd, Terry Hart 1st (yep, after tearing up the half on Sat), Peggy Horner 2nd (her first olympic!), Steve Kullman 5th, Craig Lycke (after his big Sat race), Uwe Lochner 7th, Kelly Picco 8th, Cheryl Rathert 1st (again with a smokin’ fast bike!), Jen Reisdorf 2nd, Tony Rigdon 5th (his THIRD race of the weekend!), Jon Rosen 2nd, Bruce Vaughn, and Ben Wilson 9th. Way to bring it home!

Whether a big event and long race or a local sprint, the race support/sherpa/cheer team is invaluable, and CMC had a stalwart crew on board for Nationals. BIG kudos to Kathy Archer, Beth Chapman, Joe Company, Patrick CorwinAddison Crouch, Jackson Crouch, David Davis, Janet Johnson, Mark and Amy Livesay, the Ohio contingent cheerleader, Arthur and Paula Rawlings, John Stone, and Terry Rolan. And of course the main cat herder and cruise director extraordinaire for the who-knows-how-many-times-in-a-row KAREN ROUSE! THANK YOU!!

Branson 70.3 was competing with Nationals and won out for super speedy Luise King and mom Tertia King, who both WON their age groups on a very hilly course. Awesome!!

A small but mighty group was holding down the fort in CoMo and representing CMC in the Roots n Blues 10k and half marathon. In the half (in 10-year age groups): Keith Fernandez 4th, Jim McDermott 7th, Joe Piper, Dearld Snider, Tom Tomicki, and Kristin Underwood 3rd. In the 10k: Amanda Garrison-Reed (assisting longtime runner John Lucas), Ron Sapp 1st, Michael Ugarte 3rd, Gabe Worthington 2nd (this guy is running sub-8s at 10 years old! look out!), Melina Worthington 1st (also a speedy 10 year old!), Maria Gutierrez 9th (keeping up with daughter Melina), and Roger Worthington (edged out by Gabe!). And a big kudos to Betsy Farris who worked hard to pull it all off! Way to go, guys!

You all are phenomenal! Way to go CMC!!

The photo of the week: Thanks to Jenny Clark for this group shot on the bleachers between Sunday awards ceremonies, complete with the CMC flag John Stone so faithfully carried all day Saturday to bring home every last finisher. What an incredible club!

Have a great week – and start to the off-season, for some. 🙂 If you’re racing/participating/cheering/picking up a new multisport hobby, keep us in the loop. You just may inspire someone to join you or follow in your footsteps.
